District Camp Tawd Vale - May Bank Holiday 2009
Well, it was cold, and just a bit muddy. We started with only three Cubs interested in the event but ended up taking ten along. It was a short camp but a long weekend for the leaders. A word of advice to all leaders, check your bits before you go; we just threw the garage tent onto the van without checking the connections, when we came to erect the tent we found that we were three connections missing, never mind, we are Scouts, adopt, make do and overcome, if you look closely in the pictures you’ll see we simply shortened the garage tent by losing a bay and tied back the extra material.
Apologies to the parents for the state of the clothes but the Cubs did enjoy themselves.
We would like to give the Birkenhead Explorers a big THANK YOU for extending their friendship to our Cubs, and welcoming them around their campfire almost every night, they will remember that for a long time. (What the Explorers probably don’t know is that one of the Cubs went on an Explorer hunt shortly after seven on Monday morning, and found lots of Explorers in their natural habitat, sleeping under branches and leaves in bivvies, and in hammocks up trees.).
We made and entered two chariots in an obstacle race, built a Camp Gate, ran a ‘cross country’ course, played football and tag rugby and, of course, found lots and lots of mud. |
